On Monday, September 26th, 2005, four Homewood neighbors presented a formal request to Mayor Barry McCulley that the City of Homewood pursue a comprehensive planning process. The request came a year after proposals to demolish Homewood Gardens Apartments and to erect office buildings across the street from residences in Rosedale raised questions in the community about the consequences of development. On December 5th, 2004, a public meeting held in the Homewood Library attracted 150 neighbors for a discussion of the changes occurring in Homewood. Since then, a number of Homewood citizens have gathered regularly to pursue efforts that can encourage the city to make decisions that strengthen Homewood's sense of community. We've focused efforts on a community-based comprehensive plan that can provide specific direction for the development decisions made by our city government.
